Easing Your Mind with a Beautiful Memorial Event for Your Loved One

By Elisha Neubauer

The Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Tribute Center is located in a space which possesses a great deal of history. The location was once the site of the Mattatuck Manufacturing Facility, which helped provide World War II servicemen with magazine cartridges. However, in 2002, the building was imploded, allowing for a new history to be carved in its place.

Today, you'll find the 18,500 square foot facility of Eastside Memorial on that very spot. Built in 2011, the Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Tribute Center, a Casey Family establishment, is helping the community deal with loss in a refined and simplified manner. They deeply understand the pain and complications that can be associated with this process and look to aid families in any way possible. "Since our firm was started in 1950 we have always worked with families who may be experiencing financial issues," says Owner Garrett Casey.

While payment plans are always an option for guests of the Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Tribute Center, the staff also specializes in working directly with families on less traditional sources of funding, like crowd funding projects such as 'Go Fund Me' and even grant and assistance programs. "It is our mission to assist families confronted with a loss in a supportive way and solving financial issues is just one way to do that," Casey affirms.

The facility, as it is still relatively new, is up to date with the latest state of the art features; some of which are specifically unique to Eastside. "Personalization, information technology, and an overall feeling of home and family are our hallmarks," says Casey. "For example, our visitation rooms use a theater like backdrop that allows a family to project almost any picture that is the center focus of the event."

He explains that families have utilized this feature to project images such as the city or home of the deceased's birth, or a vacation home which they adored. Some families have opted to focus on a family photo, or a preferred picture of their loved one. "This unique value-added concept is important to all families," he explains. "Another good example the funeral home takes a current photo of the deceased and sends it to a specialty company who blends it into a canvas portrait that is spotlighted in the visitation rooms."

To ensure true understanding of the loss and mourning that guests and clients feel throughout the process, all Funeral Directors at Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Tribute Center are fully trained in handling these complex emotions. "The first and most important thing is to immediately create a bond between our staff and the family," states Casey. "We do this by always treating our families as we would treat our own families. When you take the time to learn and understand about the deceased, their family and the issues that might be complicating one of the most emotional times of one's life, you immediately can become like a valued family member." He let us in on a little commandment the staff members of Eastside follow upon the first meeting with the family.

"Converse, take time to learn about the deceased and their family and be sure that the funeral director explains the process of funeral planning from beginning to end," he details. "This sets our staff and firm apart and its something we take great pride in and practice every single day."
